Scented candles was recalled on 13 February 2009 under EU Safety Gate alert 0199/09. Choking risk reported by Cyprus. The product poses a risk of choking as, due to its characteristic form, appearance, odour, colour and size, the product may be mistaken for a foodstuff.

Risk Description

The product poses a risk of choking as, due to its characteristic form, appearance, odour, colour and size, the product may be mistaken for a foodstuff. This may lead children to put it into their mouths, suck or ingest it, which could entail the risk of choking or perforation or obstruction of the digestive tract. This product does not comply with the Directive 87/357/EEC concerning products which, appearing to be other than they are, endanger the health or safety of consumers.

Product Description

Candles with a chocolate and cream fragrance in the form of various sweets. Nine candles in a cardboard box covered with a plastic transparent film.

This recall involves a choking hazard related to Scented candles.

About this risk

This product contains small parts that can detach and pose a choking hazard, or its size and shape make it dangerous for young children if swallowed or placed in the mouth.

Recommended action

Remove the product from children immediately. Check if any small parts are missing. If a child has swallowed a part, seek medical attention immediately. Return the product to the retailer.

Who is at risk?

Children under 3 years old are at highest risk. Supervise older children as well.
