"Nougat" soap was recalled on 24 October 2008 under EU Safety Gate alert 1216/08. Choking risk reported by France. The product poses a risk of choking because, given its appearance, colour, size, name and packaging, it could be confused with a foodstuff, especially by children.

Risk Description

The product poses a risk of choking because, given its appearance, colour, size, name and packaging, it could be confused with a foodstuff, especially by children. This may lead children to put it in their mouths and small parts can be generated if bitten, which could entail the risk of asphyxia or obstruction of the digestive tract. The product does not comply with the Directive 87/357/EEC on products which, appearing to be other than what they are, endanger the health or safety of consumers.

Product Description

Rectangular yellow and pale yellow soaps wrapped in transparent cellophane, tied at each end with a yellow ribbon and labelled as follows: "Soap (in four languages), Nougat", list of ingredients, "Not edible".

Recommended action

Children under 3 years old are at highest risk. Supervise older children as well.
