Keyboard mate was recalled on 20 August 2010 under EU Safety Gate alert 1273/10. Choking risk reported by Greece. The product poses a risk of choking because due to the characteristic form, appearance, colour, size and smell, this product may be mistaken for a foodstuff (baguette).

Risk Description

The product poses a risk of choking because due to the characteristic form, appearance, colour, size and smell, this product may be mistaken for a foodstuff (baguette). This may lead children to put it in their mouth, bite it into pieces and swallow the pieces, which could entail the risk of asphyxia or obstruction of the digestive tract.The product does not comply with the Directive 87/357/EEC on products which, appearing to be other than they are, endanger the health or safety of consumers.

Product Description

Keyboard mate in a shape of a baguette (approximate dimensions: 33.5 x 5.5 x 3.7 cm). The product (as it is stated in the package) “looks, feels and smells like a real baguette”. The keyboard mate is packed in a cardboard box (approximate dimensions: 38 x 7 x 4 cm), which allows you to touch the product. On the back side of the package there is the warning in English: “You can smell and squeeze me after you purchase me but please DO NOT EAT ME. Keep me away from young children and pets who cannot read this warning label”.

This product contains small parts that can detach and pose a choking hazard, or its size and shape make it dangerous for young children if swallowed or placed in the mouth.

Recommended action

Remove the product from children immediately. Check if any small parts are missing. If a child has swallowed a part, seek medical attention immediately. Return the product to the retailer.
