Decorative candles was recalled on 9 October 2009 under EU Safety Gate alert 1291/09. Choking risk reported by Greece. The product poses a risk of choking because, due to the characteristic form, appearance, colour and size, this product may be mistaken for a foodstuff (small cakes).

Risk Description

The product poses a risk of choking because, due to the characteristic form, appearance, colour and size, this product may be mistaken for a foodstuff (small cakes). This may lead children to put the product in their mouth, cut it into pieces and swallow them, which could entail the risk of asphyxia or obstruction of the digestive tract.The product does not comply with the Directive 87/357/EEC on products which, appearing to be other than they are, endanger the health or safety of consumers.

Product Description

Food-imitating decorative candles in a shape of coloured small cakes with various toppings (approximate dimensions: max. diameter 6 cm, height 4 cm). The candles are packed in six pieces in a plastic box (approximate dimensions: 20 cm x 14 cm x 5 cm), decorated with pictures of cakes, with a transparent top.
