Baby self-feeding pillow was recalled on 26 May 2023 under EU Safety Gate alert A12/01255/23. Choking risk reported by Ireland. The pillow is placed around the baby’s neck, the bottle is held in position by a piece of elastic or a pouch and the baby is positioned on its back to feed itself without the assistance of a caregiver holding the bottle and controlling the feed.

Risk Description

The pillow is placed around the baby’s neck, the bottle is held in position by a piece of elastic or a pouch and the baby is positioned on its back to feed itself without the assistance of a caregiver holding the bottle and controlling the feed. In this situation, the baby will not be able to control the flow of milk and the milk will continue to flow even if the baby is not swallowing. This can lead to choking. Choking can be silent and a baby will not have the dexterity or cognitive behaviour to otherwise raise the alarm. This product does not comply with the requirements of the General Product Safety Directive.

The product is a soft pillow grey in colour, the product can detach from the centre for the purpose of placing around an infant's neck, there is a mesh net at one end for the purpose of holding a bottle in place without the assistance of the care giver. This product contains small parts that can detach and pose a choking hazard, or its size and shape make it dangerous for young children if swallowed or placed in the mouth.

Recommended action

Remove the product from children immediately. Check if any small parts are missing. If a child has swallowed a part, seek medical attention immediately. Return the product to the retailer.

Who is at risk?

Children under 3 years old are at highest risk. Supervise older children as well.
