Risk Description
According to the ingredients list, this sunscreen product does not contain any of the UV filters listed in the Cosmetic products regulation, while sun protection can only be obtained by these UV filters. Instead, the product use karanja oil as a UV filter and the product is marketed as "sun oil high protection SPF 30" and "Sun oil effectively protects the skin from the harmful effects of UVA and UVB rays". A sunscreen product without any of the allowed UV filters presents a potential health risk when it comes to the effects of UVB and UVA radiation. According to the Commission recommendation on the efficacy of sunscreen products and the claims made relating thereto (2006/647/EC) sunscreen products need to protect against both UVB and UVA radiation in order to prevent sunburn and the damage linked to photo-ageing and induced photoimmunosuppression.
