Choking Toys Serious risk

Soft toys was recalled on 9 February 2007 under EU Safety Gate alert 0126/07. Choking risk reported by Denmark. This toy poses a serious risk of choking because the product has been marketed as “baby´s first toy” intended for children under 36 months and it is therefore certain that young children will put the toy into their mouth.

Risk Description

This toy poses a serious risk of choking because the product has been marketed as “baby´s first toy” intended for children under 36 months and it is therefore certain that young children will put the toy into their mouth.Even though the toy cannot totally fit into the small parts test cylinder, it could due to its oval shape block the air passages of a child. This product does not comply with the Toys Directive and the relevant European standard EN 71-1.

About this risk

This product contains small parts that can detach and pose a choking hazard, or its size and shape make it dangerous for young children if swallowed or placed in the mouth.

Recommended action

Remove the product from children immediately. Check if any small parts are missing. If a child has swallowed a part, seek medical attention immediately. Return the product to the retailer.

Who is at risk?

Children under 3 years old are at highest risk. Supervise older children as well.
