Scarf was recalled on 10 April 2009 under EU Safety Gate alert 0480/09. Chemical risk reported by Finland. The product poses a chemical risk because it contains banned azocolourants: - the main red colour releases 210 mg/kg of benzidine, which exceeds the limit of 30 mg/kg, - the dark red colour from the dots releases 78 mg/kg of benzidine and 74 mg/kg of 3,3’-dimethoxybenzidine, which both exceed the limit of 30 mg/kg.

Risk Description
The product poses a chemical risk because it contains banned azocolourants: - the main red colour releases 210 mg/kg of benzidine, which exceeds the limit of 30 mg/kg, - the dark red colour from the dots releases 78 mg/kg of benzidine and 74 mg/kg of 3,3’-dimethoxybenzidine, which both exceed the limit of 30 mg/kg. Levels in excess of 30 mg/kg indicate that azocolourants have been used to dye the scarf and therefore the product does not comply with the Chemical Restrictions Directive 76/769/EEC.
