Orange Panther was recalled on 1 February 2013 under EU Safety Gate alert A12/0111/13. Injuries, Strangulation, Suffocation risk reported by France. The product poses the risk of:- Injuries due to the presence of small parts that can easily become detached and may be swallowed or inhaled by children;- Strangulation, due to the presence of a fixed noose (cord securing the hood) which is too long.

Risk Description

The product poses the risk of:- Injuries due to the presence of small parts that can easily become detached and may be swallowed or inhaled by children;- Strangulation, due to the presence of a fixed noose (cord securing the hood) which is too long. The noose is formed of the adjustable cord securing the hood;- Risk of suffocation because the toy comes in a plastic bag (the one containing the hood) made of impermeable material which is not thick enough and may cause obstruction of the airway from the mouth and nose.The product does not comply with the Toy Safety Directive and the relevant European standard EN 71-1.

Recommended action

Injuries: Stop using the product immediately. Check yourself and family members for any injuries. Store the product safely out of reach and contact the retailer or manufacturer for a replacement or refund. Strangulation: Remove the product from the child's environment immediately. Cut any cords or strings if they cannot be safely removed. Never leave children unsupervised with products that have loose cords. Suffocation: Remove the product and any packaging from the child's reach immediately. If a child is having difficulty breathing, call emergency services. Dispose of plastic packaging safely.

Who is at risk?

All users, particularly children and elderly people who may be more vulnerable to injury. Infants and young children are at the highest risk of strangulation from cords, strings, and loops. Infants and toddlers are at highest risk. Never leave plastic bags or soft materials in a sleeping area.
