Lighting chain with flashing unit was recalled on 11 December 2009 under EU Safety Gate alert 1587/09. Electric shock, Fire risk reported by Hungary. The product poses a risk of electric shock because:- the cable is not provided with effective protection against a pulling force,- the cable inlets of the flashing unit have sharp edges that could damage the cable,- the insulation of the live parts is not sufficient;and a risk of fire because:- the cross sectional area of the conductors in the cable is too small,- the fire resistance of the lamp holders is not sufficient.

Risk Description
The product poses a risk of electric shock because:- the cable is not provided with effective protection against a pulling force,- the cable inlets of the flashing unit have sharp edges that could damage the cable,- the insulation of the live parts is not sufficient;and a risk of fire because:- the cross sectional area of the conductors in the cable is too small,- the fire resistance of the lamp holders is not sufficient.The product does not comply with the Low Voltage Directive (LVD) and the relevant European standard EN 60598.

Product Description
The lighting chain consists of 20 series-parallel connected incandescent lamps with resistor bridge. Each lamp is covered with a plastic ball (diameter: 5 cm) The flashing unit controls 2 circuits. Main components of the lighting chain: plug (250V CE), flashing unit, mains cable without marking. There is no data plate attached to the product.
