Lighters was recalled on 1 August 2008 under EU Safety Gate alert 0809/08. Burns risk reported by Poland. The product poses a risk of burns because of:- excessively high flame: over 100 mm, - no resistance to spitting and flaring,- during tests one of the lighters exploded and burning gas spilled out, and in another the mechanism was blocked – so in two cases the flame extinction was inappropriate.

Risk Description
The product poses a risk of burns because of:- excessively high flame: over 100 mm, - no resistance to spitting and flaring,- during tests one of the lighters exploded and burning gas spilled out, and in another the mechanism was blocked – so in two cases the flame extinction was inappropriate.The product does not comply with requirements of essential safety standard EN ISO 9994.

Product Description
The lighter is made of semi-transparent plastic, coloured blue, violet, rose, green or yellow. It is a refillable lighter. On the outer side of the lighter there is a logo “RONSON” and a sticker with the following information in English: “WARNING KEEP AWAY FROM CHILDREN. Contains flammable gas under pressure. Use with care. Ignite lighter away from face and clothing. Never expose to heat above 50°C or to prolonged sunlight. Do not puncture, put in fire or inhale. Do not keep lit continuously for more than 30 seconds. Be sure flame is completely out after use.” There is also a users' manual in English and an EAN code. The collective packaging carries the information: “country of origin: China”, name and address of importer, EAN code and warnings, as well as pictograms written in Polish. Moreover, there is information in English that in July 2001 the product was tested in accordance with the EN ISO 9994:1996 standard.
