Risk Description
The emergency brake function of the trailer could fail when the vehicles are separated because the tow-bar first touches the road surface with the lower end of the brake lever after separation from the towing vehicle. In extreme situations, this could mean that the handbrake previously activated by the breakaway cable is loosened again. An inoperative brake on a trailer which has come loose from the towing vehicle could lead to an accident.
