Fluorescent straws was recalled on 30 November 2007 under EU Safety Gate alert 1227/07. Choking risk reported by Austria. The product poses a risk of choking because the light capsule can come out of the straw easily after only moderate sucking.

Risk Description
The product poses a risk of choking because the light capsule can come out of the straw easily after only moderate sucking. As it may be foreseen that both children and adults could chew on or suck a straw relatively hard, the risk of problems in swallowing or breathing and therefore of choking is very high.Two accidents involving children in Austria have been reported. The light capsules were sucked out of the straw and swallowed by the children.

Product Description
Transparent, light milky-white plastic straws, each with a small moveable liquid-filled capsule inside. To ensure that the capsule does not come out of the straw while drinking, there are three indentations at either end, reducing the internal diameter of the straw. Pack of six in various colours.
