Risk Description

The products pose a chemical risk because they contain hexavalent chromium, in concentrations varying from 0.6 to 5 mg/kg. Oeko Tex Standard 100 states that, to ensure optimum quality, total chromium content should be less than 1 mg/kg for children’s clothing and less than 2 mg/kg for all other clothing, regardless of whether it is in contact with the skin. According to the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR; 2007), chromium VI should actually be below the detection limit due to the substance’s cutaneous sensitisation properties, i.e. its ability to cause allergic reactions such as contact dermatitis. Taking into account that the target population is children who have a tendency to suck on their clothing and that the chromium VI content is above established limit values, we consider that exposure may occur not only via the cutaneous route, but also by the oral and inhalatory route and that the products therefore pose a chemical risk.

Product Description

1. Boy’s suit (green): Article F001: Pale green boy’s suit, with white long-sleeved shirt and elastic tie bearing a geometric pattern consisting of wavy lines. There are two cardboard swing tickets. The first bears the brand name “KA LUO YI"; the second ticket also bears the brand in white print, along with “Style no”, “Size” and “Wash to cleanse” in black on a white background. The swing tickets are attached to the garment by a black string. 2. Boy’s suit (grey): Article F004: Pastel grey boy’s suit with brown and light grey tones. The light-coloured fabric label sewn to the inside of the blazer bears the brand of the garment in black. The black, irregularly-shaped swing ticket bears the brand “KA LUO YI” in white print, enclosed by a white line. It is attached to the garment by a black string. 3. Boy’s suit (striped green): Article F005: Pale green, striped boy’s suit, with white long-sleeved shirt and tie. The grey fabric label sewn to the inside of the blazer bears the brand in black. There are two cardboard swing tickets. The first bears the brand “KA LUO YI”; the second ticket also bears the brand in white print against a black background, along with “Style no”, “Size” and “Wash to cleanse” in black on a white background. The swing tickets are attached to the garment by a black string.
