Risk Description
The “Baby’s 1st” Christmas Stocking is considered to pose a serious risk of choking or injury to babies and young children due to the “eyes” and “sequins” on the product becoming detached.Initial tests on the stocking showed that the eyes could become detached at forces as low as 2.4N, and sequins could become detached at forces as low as 3.4N. The expert stated that the nature of the product means that it would come into contact with young children and is likely that it would be played with by a child. The expert was of the opinion that the “eyes” and “sequins” could be picked or bitten off by young children and could cause a choking hazard. If inhaled, these components could pass into the larynx of even a newborn baby, and could become lodged in a bronchus, causing significant safety concerns for babies and young children.
